Hope Health Crisis is Over

I have continued to have nausea and at night almost like hot flashes and I never had them in the past. This morning at 2:30 woke up so sick at my stomach and shakey and I could not keep my teeth from chattering and felt faint but no fever.
I reluctantly called my two daughters. Both them replied after me waking them up that I would be fine. I guess I was almost hysterical afraid I would faint. It has truly bothered that I had to call them
Beth, my middle daughter came to my rescue and took me to the emergency room.
They could find nothing wrong. I had guessed low potassium and dehydration like when taken in for surgery.
They did blood work and said all was fine. Maybe I was having an anxiety attack. The nurse replied "you seem anxious, would you like something for it". I said "no" I want no more medication. She questioned me about being anxious and that I did not smile. I told her "what would I have to smile about being in an emergency room, shaking all over and severly nauseated. Even as sick as I was - I wondered about her remark. It seemed very uncaring. Beth drove me back home at 4:30 in the morning. Beth your mama "thanks you".
Last Thursday this same work was done at doctors office and I was told to continue on Bactrim. The anitbiotic from Hell. Was instructed to call today and see if I did not need this medication any longer. I decided to go off of it yesterday. I kept having thoughts maybe this was the problem.
I called my primary doctor this morning and was told that tests results were back and I had no infection and probably should not have taken this strong antibiotic over the weekend. Also told that it would take several days to get this out of system.
So still weak but nausea has almost stopped.
My granddaughter who is attending the local universtiy is taking me a business appointment in the morning. I cannot reschedule this.

This - One Woman has one or two times in her lifetime had to have someone transport her somewhere. Hopefully I will finally have a good nights sleep. I want no chills or nausea.

An entry from One Woman this early evening.

I bet the antibiotic is making you sick, Ernestine. The last one I took for my tooth made me so sick I thought I would die and they told me to keep on taking it. Sounds like you are much better from the surgery itself. I hope when this gets out of your system, you will feel like a new person. I know I did! Take care and keep us up to date on your progess. I am thinking of you and praying for your quick recovery and a good night's rest.

I am pretty sure it must have been the antibiotic, on , what the body must have felt , was an empty stomach. But you know, if you feel the slightest wave of nausea coming on, ginger does the trick. Just pop a couple of slivers of fresh ginger in your mouth, and chew and such on them. It helps. You can even try the packet of candied ginger from Trader Joes. It works.

I can't stress how very important it is to your health to make sure you are taking pro-biotics to restore beneficial flora to your digestive system when you are on or have been on antibiotics. This is not so much in regard to your nausea as it is to preventing further bacterial infections.

Still shaking my head at the nurse who was wondering why you couldn't smile. The statement was not only insensitive, but idiotic. If I woke up in the condition you did and found myself in an emergency room, yes, I'd say there was room for being anxious.

As far as the sweats go, I'd say they are most likely side effects of any anesthesia your received. The older you get the harder it is for your body to get rid of the traces. Do some research about herbal medicines that help transport the anesthesia and antibiotics aways from your kidneys and liver.

I know when my mother went through radiation treatment, a anesthesiologist friend of mine told me about some Danish herbal medicine that helped to remove the worse of the radiation still in her body. My mother ended up taking them for six months.

Judy,ugich,earth heart and lilalia
thank you dear friends for your comments and advice. I do take pro-biotics most of the time and eat yogurt daily. A good nights sleep but weak I will eat some oatmeal and yogurt and ready myself for my granddaughters arrival. I want to enter no more complaining health entries.
Blessings sent to each of you for taking the time to think of me.

So glad you are now on the mend. I do think you ought to have a friend or daughter go with you to the doctor's as you seem to be getting conflicting diagnosis and another mind might help. Not uncommon in elderly. The doctors just look at us and diagnose with prejudice. I saw this when we took my mother-in-law to the hospital various times. Tell them you are living into your 90s and you would like an examination that reflects that!

As for the house, my first house did not have so much wood warping and I think it is green wood that was used. I will have to buy a case of caulk.

That nurse needs a little training in people skills. Even if you were having an anxiety attack, her approach would only serve to make it worse! Shame on her.

Not that I think you were, I'm with your other supporters, it was probably the antibiotic.

Hope you feel better soon!

Ernestine, I'm with the others who blame the antibiotics. I have just come from an appt with a gastroenterologist to figure out what my problem is that started a year ago when I took the antibiotic Clindamycin prescribed after minor surgery (an antibiotic which two other doctors has told me was unnecessary). I will NEVER again take an antibiotic as a preventive measure against the remote possibility of infection! They are potent drugs with all kinds of undesirable side effects. I too have found probiotics to be very helpful. Sorry you encountered a nurse with such a deficient bedside manner.

Nancy, Tabor and Anne, thank you for taking the time to post a comment. Have great rest of day.
It was a joy to spend the morning with my oldest granddaughter. Seemed like yesterday she was a baby.

Bless your heart, Ernestine. I am so sorry for your nausea and sweats, your visit to the emergency room, and, the insensitive nurse (!).

I am grateful for your dear daughter and the fact that you are doing better now. Hopefully, the antibiotic will be out of your system sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, take care of yourself. We all care about you!

xoxo

I have started to read your blog just recently. There is nothing worse than being alone in the night... and not feeling well.I think the fear of not knowing what is wrong is so hard on us. Our bodies can really get messed up with these medicines that we take. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Ernestine,
So sorry to hear you went through that bad night....the other posters hit all the nails and offered some great ideas.
Everytime I have had surgery, within a week or so, I have had some sort of event where I just felt awful and have always felt it was the anesthesia working its way out. Very unpleasant.

May your recovery continue on an even keel from now on!!

I agree, antibiotics can be very hard on the stomach.

Are you well enough to be staying by yourself at this time? Could someone stay with you, or perhaps you could stay at one of your daughters' homes until you're more fully on the mend?

Did the person who prescribed the antibiotic advise you to drink a glass of milk with it? I was very nauseated from medication for pain and my neighbor, who is a pharmacist, told me to not take it on an empty stomach. It helped, but I always become nauseated from any narcotic.

Be sure to tell your doctor that you think the medication made you ill.

Geez another hip hip hooray for the medical folks. :<( The only thing we can all do is never get sick. We have seen people go really nuts from docs prescribing meds they shouldn't have or combining ones that shouldn't be combined. I think I will just crawl into my woods and lay down when my time comes, thanks just the same. I'm just so glad you made it through these horrors. Your encounters dismay me. She was uncaring. Why not go into a different line of work if she can't do better than this?

I'm here to testify about the great work Dr Iyoha did for me. I have been suffering from (HERPES) disease for the past 3 years and had constant pain, especially in my knees. During the first year,I had faith in God that i would be healed someday. This disease started circulating all over my body and i have been taking treatment from my doctor, few weeks ago i came across a testimony of someone on the internet testifying about a Man called Dr Iyoha on how he cured her from Herpes Simplex Virus. And she also gave the email address of this man and advise anybody to contact him for help for any kind of sickness that he would be of help, so I emailed him telling him about my (HERPES Virus) he told me not to worry that i was going to be cured!! Well i never believed it, well after all the procedures and remedy given to me by this man which i take for 3 week, few months later i started experiencing changes all over me as Dr Iyoha assured me that i will be cured, after some time i went to my doctor to confirmed if i have be finally healed behold it was TRUE, So friends my advise is if you have such sickness or any other at all you can contact Dr Iyoha via email driyohasolutiontemple@yahoo.com. You can also call his telephone number on +1 407 337 9869. Thanks once again Dr Iyoha ...
